Staff Reporter

Accused remanded to custody till August 18

  • Accused Ramaswamy had earlier been arrested along with Anandkumar Reddy, Goverdhan Reddy
  • The three had to be released on bail due to lack of evidence
  • CBI claims to have gathered evidence against them later
  • But they have been eluding the CBI since last November

ANANTAPUR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the Paritala Ravindra murder case produced one B. Ramaswamy alias Venkataswamy in connection with the case in the Excise Court here on Wednesday. He was arrested at an undisclosed place.

Excise Magistrate Bala Venkata Koteshwara Rao remanded the suspect till August 18. He was produced in the Excise Court as Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate Moses is on leave. The accused has been sent to the district jail at Reddypalli.

Ramaswamy was included in the case as an accused along with P. Goverdhan Reddy and U. Anandkumar Reddy alias Rice Mama through a supplementary chargesheet filed by the CBI on November 30, 2005 taking the number of accused to 16.

Anandkumar Reddy was arrested on February 22, 2005 and was released on bail in May after 90 days' judicial custody as the CBI failed to gather any material or evidence against him.

    Conspiracy

Similarly, Goverdhan Reddy and Ramaswamy were arrested and produced in the court here on March 18, 2005 after the former claimed before newspersons in a court in Ranga Reddy district that he was aware of the conspiracy to kill Paritala Ravindra.

But, the CBI had failed to gather any evidence against the two and they were granted bail on June 23, 2005.

Later, the CBI claimed to have secured some evidence against the three and a supplementary chargesheet was filed in November 2005.

Since then, the three were eluding the CBI. However, with the arrest of Ramaswamy, the CBI is on the look out of the remaining two.
