KOLLAM: Chief General Manager of the BSNL Kerala S.A. Thomas has said that the Kerala unit of the BSNL was able to make a handsome profit of Rs.890 crores last year. He was addressing a function here on Wednesday at which BSNL's Sanchar Seva Padak, Sanchar Sarathy and Best Exchange Awards-2006 under the Kollam Telecom were given away. Mr. Thomas said that the profit registered by BSNL last year is the highest made by a public sector company in the State. He said that more facilities will be made available through the Broad Band shortly. By December 31 the entire waiting list for telephone connections in the State will be cleared. At present, there are 54 lakhs telephone connections in the State and out of that 11 lakhs are in Kollam district alone. All telephone exchanges in Kollam district are qualified for getting national awards, he said. The Best Exchange Award in the district went to the Bharatheepuram Exchange and the Customer Service Centre at Kottarakara was given the award for best service. General manager of Kollam Telecom S.M. Kalavathi presided over the function. C. Rajendran Pillai, Deputy General Manager (Planning), welcomed the gathering and P. Venkatesham, Deputy General Manager (Operations), proposed a vote of thanks.
