LIGHTING THE LAMP: The Ilaya Raja of the Pandalam Palace Uthradomnaal P.R.Rajaraja Varma inaugurating the day-long mass fast organised by the Ayyappa Dharma Samrakshana Samiti in Pandalam town on Wednesday.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Ayyappa Dharma Samrakshana Samiti (ADSS), a Pandalam-based all-party movement, staged a day-long mass fast in Pandalam town on Wedenesday, protesting against the alleged attempt by the Travancore Devaswom Board to sideline the Pandalam Palace with regard to the customs and traditions of the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple.

Ilaya Raja of the Pandalam Palace Uthradomnaal P.R. Rajaraja Varma inaugurated the fast by lighting a ceremonial lamp in a specially erected pandal at Pandalam junction at 9 a.m.

Pandalam Palace Managing Committee president P. Ramavarma Raja and secretary P. Rajaraja Varma have alleged that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) was trying to alter many an age-old custom and tradition in Sabarimala. They alleged that the move to "belittle the Pandalam Palace" in connection with the Sabarimala affairs was part of this TDB game plan. K.C.Rajagopal and K.K.Shaju, MLAs, district panchayat members N.G.Surendran, Asha Benn and P.K. Kumaran, the former Excise Minister Pandalam Sudhakaran and Samiti leaders were among those who addressed the meeting
