State Planning Board expanded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to expand the State Planning Board, including C. P. Narayanan, K. Ramachandran Nair, Mridul Eappen, P. V. Unnikrishnan and K. N. Harilal as members.

Sushil Khanna (Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata), Venkitesh Athreya (M. S. Swaminathan Foundation), K. K. Subramaniam (Centre for Development Studies), C. P. Chandrasekhar (Jawaharlal Nehru University) and K. K. George and M. A. Oommen (economists) will be advisors to the Planning Board.

Finance Minister Thomas Isaac, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran, Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas, Minister for Water Resources N. K. Premachandran and Public Works Minister P. J. Joseph will be ex-officio members of the Board.

Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan is the Chairman of the Board and Prabhat Patnaik its Vice-Chairman.

Replying to questions at the weekly Cabinet briefing about vigilance cases pending against Mr. Unnikrishnan, the Chief Minister said he would enquire about that.

The Cabinet, he said, decided to post Sharmila Mary Joseph as Wayanad Collector. The incumbent Aswini Kumar Roy will be posted as Secretary (Finance- Expenditure).

The Thodupuzha district judge P. S. Gopinathan will be appointed as the new Law Secretary. K. Sasidhara (Jalanidhi) will be posted as Labour Commission and Anand Singh as Director of the Kerala State Urban Development Project.
