VIJAYAWADA: The Overseas Manpower Company Andhra Pradesh Limited (OMCAP) has been certified by the Government of Malaysia to teach Malay language to the Indian youth aspiring to take up jobs in Malaysia. Upon successful completion of a weeklong training in Malay language and culture, the job aspirants will get eligibility certificates, which will help them secure visa from Malaysian embassy. The training will be available in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad from next month.
Official agency
The OMCAP, floated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, is the second Indian organisation, after the Chennai-based Overseas Manpower Corporation (OMC) of Government of Tamil Nadu, to be recognised by the Malaysian Government. After restricting the work permits to only those who are well versed in Malay language and the culture of the land in January this year, the Malaysian Government had initially identified only the OMC as its official agency to teach the language and culture. But having approved India as one of the `resource countries' for supply of manpower, the Malaysian Government felt the need for recognising one more agency for the task. Hence, the choice fell on the OMCAP. The OMCAP will conduct classes for 60 hours, which will be followed by a test to check the eligibility of the aspirants. Certificates will be presented only then. Such a certificate is necessary for all those who seek a work permit in Malaysia, so as to be able to draw a salary up to 1,500 Malaysian Ringgits a month, which is usually drawn by unskilled and semi-skilled workforce. "The Malaysian Government has made eligibility certificate a mandatory document to acquire visa. Those aspiring to take up such jobs as trainee engineers, electricians, plumbers, construction and plantation workers should get this certificate," said K. Venkata Swamy, OMCAP manager, on Tuesday over telephone from Hyderabad. The OMCAP entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Malaysia-based Visionbytes Free System SBNBHP in July to train its candidates in Malay language and culture. "Junior employment officers (JEOs) from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam are undergoing a 60-hour-long training now in Hyderabad. Once the training is over, they will conduct classes to job aspirants," he said. The OMCAP will charge a fee in the range of Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 3,500 for the training and certification.
