Jail authorities told to provide treatment to prisoner
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities of the jail department to provide medical treatment to a prisoner in Warangal who is suffering from HIV.
The Bench was dealing with a writ petition wherein the issue of non-release of prisoners in jail failing to produce security bail bonds due to financial constraints was being adjudicated.
While perusing the material furnished by the Director General of Prisons, the Bench noticed that a prisoner in Warangal's central prison was a HIV-positive.
The Bench directed the authorities to shift this prisoner to the hospital for proper medical treatment and posted the matter to September 6.
The Bench asked for a better affidavit with more comprehensive information to be filed.
