Haryana plan for district-level bomb disposal squads

Western Command approached to impart training to police personnel

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has decided to constitute Bomb Disposal Squads in the districts falling under the National Capital Region within the next three months, Chief Secretary Prem Prashant told media persons here on Wednesday.

He disclosed that the Government was contemplating posting Bomb Disposal Squads in the sensitive districts in the wake of perceived threat from militants especially in commercial centres. Two such Squads were already functioning in Madhuban, Karnal. Mr.Prashant said that the Western Command had been approached to impart training to Haryana police personnel regarding disposal of bombs. The Town and Country Planning authorities had also been directed to modify the existing rules for granting licences to Malls and other multi-storey buildings in view of the perceived security threats.

He said the constitution of a disaster management authority on the pattern of central disaster management authority was under consideration and its scope would be widened keeping in viewoutbreak of calamities like earthquake. This Authority would in turn set up a task force to handle disasters.

He further said that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) had constituted two teams -- one for acquiring the land and another for making plans for setting up the Special Economic Zone. The Revenue Department was verifying land records so that it could be given to the RIL.A Board of Directors was being appointed and a joint company would be registered within the next 15 days to run the SEZ. Replying to a question, he said that there was no proposal to hike bus fares in the State.
