NEW DELHI: The ridership on the Delhi Metro touched an all time high of nearly 6.5 lakhs -- with fare collection reaching Rs 76 lakhs -- on the Raksha Bandhan day on Wednesday forcing the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to push all its three standby trains into operation and call in its training school staff for better crowd management. Before this on Tuesday, a new ridership record of 5.4 lakh, with collection of Rs 63 lakhs, was set as people used the system extensively. DMRC said while it had made preparations for the extra rush and had planned running of all its trains at peak frequency from 8 a.m. to 8-30 p.m. on Wednesday, the passenger volumes were even beyond its expectation. "People in large numbers used the system due to which we pressed all the three standby trains -- one on each line -- to clear the extra rush. Moreover about 50 personnel undergoing training at the staff training school were summoned to help."
