Plea to withdraw user charges

NEW DELHI: Medicos Forum For Equal Opportunities, a social forum of doctors, on Wednesday demanded that the Director of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, P. Venugopal, immediately comply with the orders of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry to withdraw the user charges that were implemented in November 2005.

"Patient continue to pay despite the fact that the Ministry issued the order dated August 4, 2006, stating that user charges be restored to what it was prior to November 2005. However, no action has been taken so far," said the Forum convenor Vikas Bajpai.

Youth Congress Day

NEW DELHI: The Indian Youth Congress on Wednesday celebrated Youth Congress Day at the party headquarters here.

Speaking on the occasion, IYC president Ashok Tanwar said the organisation would henceforth commemorate the day as "Yuva Jagao Abhiyan".

The programme was followed by a Raksha Bandhan programme, in which Mr. Tanwar and the Delhi Youth Congress president Amit Malik were tied rakis by visually impaired girls of Janata Adarsh Andh Vidyalaya at Sadiq Nagar.

Bank anniversary

NEW DELHI: The South Indian Bank Limited held a grand function at the YMCA premises here this past week to celebrate its 77 years of service to the nation and 33 years of service in Delhi. Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi inaugurated the function by lighting a lamp. The Special Secretary (Financial Sector), Department of Banking, Ministry of Finance, Vinod Rai, was the guest of honour and also delivered the keynote address. The new ATM of the bank at Regal Building was also inaugurated on the occasion by Bishan Swaroop, a client of the bank since 1973.

PF Adalats

NEW DELHI: The Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Delhi (North), S.R. Joshi, will hold the Bhavishya Nidhi Adalat in his chamber on the 10th of every month to redress the grievances of subscribers of Employees' Provident Fund Organisations, Delhi (North). All the aggrieved subscribers/employers have to submit their grievances 15 days prior to the date of the Adalat.

Poem-based ballet

NEW DELHI: Intereducare Trust India in association with Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation is staging a poem-based ballet "Karna Kunti Samvaad" at Dilli Haat here on Saturday. Based on an episode in Mahabharata, the dance ballet is from Rabindranath Tagore's collection. The main highlight will be that noted Hindi film actor and writer Tom Alter will perform at Dilli Haat for the first time. He would be accompanied by Intereducare Trust India resident director and ace Odissi dancer Sharmila Ganguly as "Kunti".
