Kochi
Troubled times continue for the traffic signals in the city, it seems. Signal posts in busy junctions are often knocked down by speeding motorists, and then traffic police personnel are left high and dry in handling the situation. It was only recently that the entire system at Vyttila junction was replaced. A speeding tanker lorry had recently knocked down the entire system at Palarivattom Bypass junction. The police and district administration officials have long been complaining against paucity of funds in maintaining the system efficiently. Signs of it were evident on Thursday at Pallimukku junction, when all the lights came on during peak traffic hour. With both red and green lights on, motorists along M.G. Road and Sahodaran Ayyappan Road were at a loss what to do. Moments of confusion were cleared when the system clicked back into place.
