Rarely does one see a Defence personnel riding a two-wheeler without wearing helmet. The rule is strictly enforced on the sprawling campus of the Southern Naval Command. Even civilians who visit the Command are not exempt from the rule. Recently, a journalist missed the bus that ferried mediapersons to cover the ceremonial taking over of Vice-Admiral J.S. Bedi as the new Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Command. He rushed to the Command on his two-wheeler. But he was stopped at the entrance as he was not wearing a helmet. He was later taken inside by car. As far as cars are concerned, the cabin lights have to be turned on at night. A board at the entrance to the command says cars with tinted glasses are not permitted inside. Or, they have to be rolled down at the security point. The aim is to identify people who visit the high-security zone.
