After the hectic cola wars, it is a sense of deja vu in the respective camps. The normally vociferous promoters of cola drinks are a silent lot these days and are only seen in newspaper ads. However, an innocuous statement from the Indian Soft Drink Manufacturers Association (ISDMA) on Kerala developments makes interesting reading. It barely states that it has learnt about this issue from media reports. "Our products manufactured in India are absolutely safe and meet every safety standard set by food health and regulatory bodies in India and all over the world. We have not received any formal communication from the government on this subject and we will only comment once we do so," says the announcement rather tersely. It is on a plain sheet of paper, no letterhead, no signature or seal or any name of the person who faxed it to the newspaper offices in Kochi.
