Shanthi Kannan

To invest $4 m in the Chennai centre and raise employee strength by 50 p.c.

  • Earned revenue of $15 million during last year and had 15 U.S.-based clients.
  • Targets to equalise the percentage of work in voice and non-voice segments

CHENNAI: Ajuba Solutions India, engaged in offering healthcare revenue cycle outsourcing and contract centre services to clients in the U.S. and U.K., plans to invest $4 million in setting up its third centre in Chennai, according to Devendra Saharia, President of the company.

Speaking to this correspondent, Mr. Saharia said the company had so far invested $8-9 million in the existing two centres in Chennai. At present, the company had nearly 800 employees, which would go up to 1,200 by the end of the year.

Ajuba Solutions, which was started by four investors six years ago, earned revenue of $15 million during last year and had 15 U.S.-based clients.

The revenue generating streams of health BPO included medical billing, claims processing, disease coding and forms processing. It generally gave a billing rate of $16-18 per hour per person, which was higher than rates in other BPO verticals.

The margins in this vertical were roughly 30 per cent.

Mr. Saharia said the healthcare BPO was a niche area, which required employees with analytical and processing skills. Currently in Ajuba, he said, nearly 60 per cent of the work was voice based and the balance was non-voice. The company's main target was to equalise the percentage of work in voice and non-voice segment.

Today, Chennai is becoming the preferred investment destination for healthcare software and BPO services. Companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Perot Systems, I-Soft, Covansys, Paramount Healthcare and Lason Inc, earn sizable income from their offerings to the U.S. healthcare market.
