`Vigyanotsavam' exam on Monday

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The `Struggle for Independence and post-independent India' will be the theme of this year's annual `Vigyanotsavam' examination conducted by the Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad in schools across the State on Monday.

The two-hour activity-oriented examination will assess the students' observation skills and interest in conducting experiments, besides doing away with their fear of writing examinations.

"For most of the students, writing exams is a painful ordeal. We want to get rid of this negative perception and make the whole process a joyful experience," said V. Harilal, district secretary of the Parishad. The process begins with an ice-breaking session that involves recitation of poems and a magic show by students and teachers. The examination held in nearly 5,000 schools across the State had hitherto been focussing on children studying in Classes III to X. However, this year onwards the programme will include Plus Two students as well.
