HUBLI: Members of the Karnataka State Government Daily Wage Employees Federation took out a procession in Hubli on Wednesday in support of their demands.

Although August 9 is observed as "Quit India Day" across the country, the federation members observed it as "quit exploitation day".

The procession began from the Bendre Kutir on Gokul Road and concluded at the Tahsildar's office. The federation is demanding regularisation of the services of 17,000 daily wage employees in the State who have completed 10 years of service.

The federation also held a State-level conference at "Vishwa Shrama Chetana" in Hubli to chalk out the next course of action. The conference was presided over by K.S. Sharma, president of the federation.

K. Raghavendra Rao, political scientist, Vaman Bendre, writer, D.U. Shirali, B.F. Vijapur and Mohan Limbikai addressed the conference. Nearly 1,000 delegates drawn from various parts of the State participated.

The conference decided to observe the Independence Day as "The nation got Independence but daily wagers are yet slaves day" by staging a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Dharwad.
