Corrections and clarifications

The caption of the standalone picture "Touch of warmth" (Chennai city, August 10, 2006, page 4) was: "An Emotional Moment: [Tamil Nadu] Governor Surjit Singh Barnala waits as a young girl from SOS Children's village ties `rakhi' on his wrist on the occasion of `Raksha Bandhan' on Wednesday. Traditionally, girls tie the rakhi for brothers wishing them health and prosperity." As a reader points out, this is incorrect. "Raksha" means "protection" and "Bandhan" means "to tie". As the name suggests, it is "a bond of protection"; a pledge from brothers to protect the sister from all harm and troubles and a prayer from the sister to protect the brother from all evil.

G.K. Vasan is Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The text of the report "Dhanushkodi Adithan said to be critical" (Tamil Nadu, August 7, 2006) incorrectly mentioned him to be the Union Minister for Statistics and Project Implementation.

Mr. Dara Acidwalla, Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI), clarifies that Mr. Madhukar Kamath has been unanimously re-elected Vice-President of the AAAI. A reader has pointed out that the text of "Re-elected AAAI President" ("Business" page, August 9, 2006) just said the managing director and CEO of Mudra Communications Pvt. Ltd. has been re-elected to this post; there was no name.
