GULBARGA: Schools in flooded villages will remain closed till the situation improves, Iqbal Ahmed Saradagi, MP, said here on Thursday. "Children will find it difficult to reach schools during floods. We may open relief centres in the schools and depute teachers for overseeing these centres," he told presspersons after a survey of flooded areas in the district. "We estimate that over 30 villages in Afzalpur may be flooded in the next few days. At least 17 of them may be cut off. However, we are ready to handle the situation," he said. Officials said some roads were cut off after water flowed over the bridges on these roads. They are: roads between Tallur to Gangapur, Bandarwada to Hasaragundagi and Kudaganur to Afzalpur. Afzalpur town drinking water supply was affected as the jackwell was submerged. Ten tankers would supply water to the city, Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey said. The Bhima is flowing almost to the danger mark near the Deval Ganagapur Bridge. The present water level is 404.38 metres. The danger level is 405 metres. The gauze has recorded that 1.67 lakh cusecs of water flows in the river now. It is expected to increase to 3.5 lakh cusecs by Friday evening, officials said.
