GULBARGA: Members of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) on Thursday alleged that the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party Government had failed to implement its Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and demanded its dismissal. The protesters took out a procession from Jagat Chowk to the tahsildar's office where they staged a dharna. They submitted a memorandum, addressed to Governor Chaturvedi, to the tahsildar. The DPI State president Malappa Hosmani said even after six months the coalition Government had come to power, the Government had not implemented the programme.
Employment scheme
They alleged that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme had not been implemented properly in the district even though over Rs. 25 crore had been released. "The rural poor are the worst hit," he added. Chikungunya was spreading, but the Government had not taken steps to contain its spread. The Government had failed to implement the "Bhagyalashmi" scheme for girl children, he added. The Government had promised to provide farm loans at four per cent interest rate. But this had also not been provided to all beneficiaries. "The coalition Government had completely failed on all aspects," he added. The DPI demanded that the Governor dismiss the coalition Government in the State. District president Ambarai Hadgil, Kashinath Diwandgi, Raju Chavan, and others led the strike.
