NEW DELHI: Disapproving the former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh's attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday said Mr. Natwar Singh ``furthered'' the commercial interests of his relative when he led a goodwill delegation of the Congress party to Iraq in 2001.

``His job was to lead a goodwill delegation ... He did that job but at the same time he did the job of furthering the business interests and commercial interests of the relation of his son,'' Mr. Mukherjee told PTI. He was asked to comment on Mr. Natwar Singh's suspension from the Congress.

He said Mr. Natwar Singh also did not tell anybody that he had written three letters to the Iraqi Oil Minister.

Asked about Mr. Natwar Singh's attack on the Prime Minister, Mr. Mukherjee said ``the type of observations he is making is totally unacceptable.'' — PTI
