"All members should get opportunity to speak"

Pondicherry: The Speaker of Pondicherry Assembly R. Radhakrishnan asked the legislators on Thursday to ensure that they did not exceed the time allotted to them to speak during debate.

He gave the ruling to drive home the point that all members should get opportunity to air their views and deal with the subjects on hand straightway taking into consideration the time factor.

The debate was meant for focussing on the people's problems and for ensuring development of the Union Territory, the Speaker said. The Speaker intervened to give the ruling when members belonging to the ruling Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam referred to `excess time' the AIADMK member A. Anbalagan had taken on Wednesday (August 9) during a debate on certain subjects in the House.

Mr. Anbalagan said that he had only explained to the media the reasons for his walkout on Wednesday.
