Pondicherry: Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Thursday said the Government was disbursing Rs. 14 crore every year towards payment of monthly assistance for the physically challenged persons. The Chief Minister also provided details on the quantum of assistance given to the physically challenged persons depending upon the level of disability. The Welfare Minister, P. Angalane told the Assembly during the question hour that 18,807 persons were covered. Replying to a supplementary, Mr. P. Angalane said the assistance was between Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 a month depending upon the extent of disability of the applicants. Mr. Rangasamy told J. Narayanasamy (Independent) that the Government had been testing the quality of subsoil water in Villianoor block periodically to ensure that the water was not affected by the effluents from a soap company discharged from its unit at Vadamangalam. The tests so far proved that there was no contamination of water.
