PONDICHERRY : Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi on Thursday urged the Pondicherry University to adopt a "pro-active approach to dealing with affiliation matters" in the case of medical and engineering colleges expected to start in the coming year in the Union Territory. Addressing students, who joined the university recently, Mr Mithi said the university might deal with the issue within a framework of rules and regulations while keeping in mind the aspirations of locals. He also said that the university might device curriculum to improve the skill of local educated unemployed youth so that they get jobs in tourism, port development, information technology and manufacturing industries. Mr. Mithi said that an entrepreneurial aptitude should be cultivated among the students. They must be taught to take calculated risks for the sake of a larger gain, but not at the cost of ethics. Thus they can be equipped to face challenges in life, he added. Vice-Chancellor A K Bhatnagar, in his presidential address, said that students must learn to think beyond the classroom. "Teachers can only guide you. It is up to the students to interact with them as much as possible, use the library and the internet and explore what is beyond the classroom." Registrar Loganathan and deans of schools in the university also spoke. Earlier, the Lt. Governor inaugurated a lecture hall complex constructed at a cost of Rs. 130.80 lakh. The complex has 10 lecture halls and can accommodate 390 students.
