Students fall sick after noon meal

VILLUPURAM: As many as 119 students of the Government High School at Nagar in Tindivanam taluk fell sick after eating noon meal provided in the school on Wednesday. Some of the students alleged that glass pieces were found in the meal, and this triggered a mass reaction among the students, who started belching.

Soon, they were admitted to the Government general hospital.

On information Personal Assistant (Noon meal) to the Collector, Babu, Revenue Divisional Officer Annadurai, Tahsildar, Kumar and Tindivanam District Educational Officer, Chakkarapani, visited the hospital and conducted enquiries.

They called for samples of the meal and a scan was done to establish that it was free from any foreign bodies.

However, the authorities have placed under suspension organiser of the noon meal centre, Manjula, cook Sundarammal and assistant Avaniammal.
