VIJAYAWADA: Over 1,300 boys and girls from the all over the State will participate in the three-day State junior inter-district athletic championship here on Friday. With the Vijayawada Municipal Commission (VMC) commissioner Natarajan Gulzar not giving permission to stage the meet at the IGMC Stadium citing the rain as an excuse, organisers have made alternative arrangements at the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Stadium at Singhnagar.
As many as 160 events will be held in the under-14, 16, 18 and 20 categories and the State contingent for the South Zone meet will be selected on the concluding day of the meet. The selected players will undergo a 14-day residential camp at the Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad.
Pradeep shines
An unbeaten 59 by A.G. Pradeep helped Central Zone muster 181 for five against South Zone at close on the first day of the three-day ACA inter-zone u-22 tournament at the Loyola Public School, Nallapadu on Thursday. The scores: Central Zone 181 for five in 60 overs (A.G. Pradeep 59, Chidambhareswara Rao 30, Vijay two for 30, Naushad two for 34) vs South Zone.
Eight players for Hyderabad tournament
K.V.K. Karthik, M.L. Abhilash Reddy, Kavitha Naga Pavani, V. Jayathree, J.K. Raju, R. Naveen Kumar, P.S.S.K. Pavan and T. G. Mounish will represent Krishna District in the State u-19 and open chess selections to be held in Hyderabad from Aug. 12 to 15.
