Ramachandra Gowda releases `Pride of India'

Staff Reporter

`The western culture has eroded our tradition and culture'

Bangalore: Minister for Science and Technology Ramachandra Gowda released a book, "Pride of India", published by Samskrita Bharati, here on Wednesday.

The coffee table edition speaks about science in the sacred Indian texts, including the Vedas and the Puranas.

Speaking after releasing the book, Mr. Ramachandra Gowda said, "The western culture, which was introduced to the people of the country during the British rule, has eroded our tradition and culture. Even though we are the originators of modern science, including mathematics, medicine, analytical geometry, algebra and astronomy, we have decided to blindly embrace the western system of education."

Mr. Ramachandre Gowda promised that the State Government would take steps to ensure that the book was available in all public libraries for the benefit of the people. An exhibition on "Indian heritage of science and technology" was organised on the occasion.

R.C. Purohit, president of the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Anant Koppar, head of technology of Mphasis, were present.
