`Money no constraint in providing succour'

Minister asks officials to install VHF sets for immediate info


  • Minister tours a number of villages in Sakhinetipalli, Mummidivaram and P. Gannavaram
  • Mobile Rythu Bazar to supply vegetables to people

    Amalapuram: Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah has stated that the State Government is ready to spend any amount for flood-hit areas and will take care of flood victims.

    Speaking to reporters on Thursday after touring a number of villages in Sakhinetipalli, Mummidivaram and P. Gannavaram along with other Ministers, he said drinking water, food and shelter were their priority.

    `Relief to all'

    Replying to a question, he said they would ensure that people would be evacuated, if any one was still trapped in marooned villages as they had pressed four Navy helicopters into service. He said they instructed all the mandal revenue officials to give rice, kerosene and milk to all the victims, including those who were not in relief camps.

    He asked the officials to set up VHF sets in Inavelli, Katrenikona, Vuppalaguptam and Mummidivaram areas to know information on a minute-to-minute basis.

    He asked the police to do patrolling in those villages where people were shifted to relief camps.

    More medical camps

    District in-charge Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and J. Ramamohana Rao asked the Joint Collector and District Supply Officer to sell vegetables to people in mobile Rythu Bazar. Minister Gollapalli Suryarao asked the DMHO to send more teams and hold more medical camps in the badly-hit Mummidivaram constituency.

    Collector M. Subrahmanyam told mediapersons that till Thursday evening the total number of flood-hit mandals in Konaseema was 16 and 157 villages were affected.

    The total number of families affected was 99,703 and affected people 3.93 lakhs. He said they had distributed 14.81 lakh food packets, 12.24 lakh water packets and 62, 500 packets of milk, pressed 199 boats into service and arranged 295 medical camps.
