Official shifted after tour `misuse'

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Acting swiftly on the outcome of an application under the Right to Information Act, the Union Ministry of Science and Technology has posted Brig. M V Bhat, Deputy Surveyor General at the Survey of India headquarters here, to New Delhi.

Confirming the Ministry's directions, a senior officer said the application under the Right to Information Act had revealed that Brig. Bhat had `misused' his position to undertake 60 tours in the 18-month period beginning January 2004. Of these 45 tours were to Bangalore where his family stayed.

The application was filed after Brig Bhat refused to give tour allowance to Dr Lalita Prasad, a medical officer. The matter is said to have been taken seriously by Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal, who has ordered all departments under him to ensure that the travel facilities were not misused.
