NEW DELHI: Taking the matter of women empowerment further, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday announced that the Delhi Transport Corporation planned to induct women conductors who will be posted in schools buses across the city. She also promised a multi-modal transport system in place by 2009 to cater to the growing number of commuters. Inaugurating the interactive session on improvement of DTC school bus service that was attended by around 127 school representatives and the parent teacher association members, Ms. Dikshit said the prime concern of the Government was to provide the city with a safe, efficient and reliable transport system to serve the growing population and its needs. The interactive session was organised as part of the ongoing ``Service Improvement Week'' being observed by DTC. Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf along with the Chairman-cum- Managing Director Anshu Prakash also interacted with the stakeholders to get a first hand feedback and suggestions. Ms. Dikshit said DTC had been providing school bus services for the past three decades with 1,150 trips daily. It has been catering 1,84,000 students of around 127 Government and other aided schools.
