Spotlight on "Freedom Week"

NEW DELHI: As part of its contribution towards celebrating Independence Day and the spirit of freedom, DLF Group has invited India Vision Foundation (IVF) -- a non government organisation that rehabilitates women inmates from Tihar Central Jail -- to be the focus of its "Freedom Week".

Inaugurated at City Centre in neighbouring Gurgaon on Wednesday, the "Freedom Week" will showcase products and handicrafts made by women working with IVF.

Speaking on the occasion, the founder President of IVF, Kiran Bedi, said the main objective behind launching the Foundation was to rehabilitate women prisoners and help them get back into the mainstream of society by helping them to become financially independent.

Foundation ceremony of Janakpuri Club

NEW DELHI: Members of Janakpuri Club -- a prestigious club of West Delhi --celebrated the foundation ceremony of their club's building over the weekend.

On the occasion, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken offered his services for making the club the best one in the Capital.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi congratulated the club's members for getting the land of club that is surrounded by a five-star-hotel, mall and District Centre Complex.

`Hasya Kavi Sammelan' at St. Paul's School

NEW DELHI: St. Paul's School, Hauz Khas, hosted an inter-school "Hasya Kavi Sammelan" at its premises here this past week.

Eminent personalities from Hindi literary circle, who judged the competition, appreciated the subtle satire used by the participants to express their concern over the grave issues affecting society.

Among the 22 contesting teams, St. Paul's School was declared the best team with Abhas of Class VIII and Sumant Mishra of Class VI as its members. Amity International, Saket, that bagged the second position at the competition was awarded the Rolling Trophy.

Inter-school debate

NEW DELHI: The 11th The Air Force School annual inter-school debate 2006 was held

at the school's premises here on Tuesday.

Before the commencement of the debate, Air Force Wives Welfare Association vice president Anita Bhavnani lit the traditional lamp at the auditorium.

A number of teams from prestigious schools of Delhi presented their arguments on the subject "Prosperity Is Possible Without Parity". The running trophy for the best team was bagged by Springdales, Dhaula Kuan.
