Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has invited fixed line customers who have shifted to other operators to come back to its fold by announcing scores of offers. Given the clamour in the telecom market, the BSNL has apparently taken this step to stem the mass exodus to private operators. At a media conference here on Thursday, R. Mani, BSNL General Manager, Tirupati Telecom district, said that the schemes were conceived based on the market feedback that customers migrating to other operators started feeling the pinch on their purse after three months. As per a novel scheme, customers could now get their telephone reactivated with no reconnection charges and no rent for the intervening period. Similarly, installation charges would also be waived off for customers taking new landline connections before August 31. The monthly rental would be slashed from Rs. 299 to Rs. 225 for OneIndia customers from July 1, he pointed out.
Unlimited downloads
On the Broadband front, BSNL decided to make available `DataOne' for home users at Rs. 900 per month with unlimited downloads at 256 kbps speed. Following the huge success of `DataOne' in Tirupati, plans were afoot to extend it to Chittoor and Madanapalle. In an attempt to leave its GSM footprints across the district, BSNL plans to add two more cell sites in a month, taking the total number to 80. Also, 58 more were in the pipeline for next year, benefiting the 89,000 plus customers in the district, apart from visiting devotees.
10 paise per minute
On the new scheme of facilitating customers to call any two BSNL numbers (including a landline) within a circle at 10 paise per minute, Mr. Mani hoped that it would be a success, as it would take them closer to customers. "One can now access TTD seva details by sending SMS to 6060 or using the interactive voice response (IVR) system and the GPRS facility to download devotional songs, video etc," he added.
Other plans
Among others things to be introduced shortly would be the credit/debit card payment facility in CTO Tirupati, prepaid landline phones and CellOne with 3G capability. Deputy General Managers Y. Venkatnarayana and A. Srikumar were also present.
