Ensure remunerative prices for crops, officials told

KADAPA: Joint Collector Kanthilal Dande on Thursday underscored the need for providing remunerative prices to various crops.

Addressing a meeting on agricultural research and extension advisory meeting at the Agricultural Research Station at Utukur in Chintakommadinne mandal, he said yield of several crops was good but farmers were facing hardships due to lack of remunerative prices. Bio-diesel plantations were sought to be raised in one lakh acres in Kadapa district, he said.

Joint Director of Agriculture M. Rajeswar said Bengal gram, castor, maize, sunflower etc. could raised as alternative crops to groundnut, which was affected by rainfall deficiency. Groundnut crop was raised in 22 per cent of the normal cropping area in the district, he said. He assured supply of seed for alternate crops on 33 per cent subsidy.

Twelve mandals received 20 mm rainfall and Lingala and Rayachoti received less than 10 mm rainfall, Mr. Rajeswar said.

Director of Research of ARS Raghava Reddy, senior scientist Sankar Reddy, N.G. Ranga Agricultural University Board member R. Zahara Banu, scientists and agricultural officials took part.
