KADAPA: Functionaries of the Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a dharna before the Kadapa Municipal Corporation on Thursday seeking steps to mitigate the drinking water supply problem and prevention of spread of chikungunya. CPI district assistant secretary P. Krishnamurthy and town secretary G. Chandra alleged that people languished for want of basic amenities. Drinking water was being supplied once in three days in some areas, despite promises of providing 24-hour supply. Drainage water stagnation in some places was leading to mosquito menace and chikungunya, they said. Sanction of individual latrines to beneficiaries was delayed, they alleged. Sixteen municipal wards were selected for development as model wards under Indiramma scheme, but houses, taps and power meters were yet to be provided, they alleged. CPI leaders W. Ramu, N. Narasimhulu, Subbarayudu and others took part.
