BHADRACHALAM : The revenue mandals of Chintoor, Kunavaram and Vararamachandrapuram, which bore the recent flood, are still left in the dark. Such was the case with many villages in the Velerpadu and Kukkunoor mandals. The relief camps, wherein over 76,000 people have been accommodated are no exception. The flood that wreaked havoc in the low lying areas, affected 33 electricity substations in Bhadrachalam and Palvancha divisions and the loss was put at over Rs 2.25 crores. The Transco superintending engineer in charge, Sudhakar said 29 power substations were rectified on war footing. Restoration work was in progress in four substations at Nellipaka, Kunavaram and Sarivella. The mandal headquarter villages would be given power supply within the next 24 hours. It might take little more time to reach the interior villages as they were yet to surface from the water. Power supply was restored very quickly in Wajeedu and Charla mandals. Drinking water supply were the priority, he said.
Latest disaster
Even as the restoration works are underway, a youth, Mukkera Rambabu came in touch with a live wire in Parnasala Village and suffered serious burns . As the floodwater started receding, officials reached Kunavaram village by road with medicines and relief supplies. Some 22,000 litres of kerosene was lifted from stock points in Bhadrachalam for supply to the affected villages. The relief camps in the food-hit areas were depending mainly on the kerosene lamps.
