MYSORE: The SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Mysore, in association with Third Sector Research Resource Centre and the National Federation of University Co-operative Association (NFUCA), Japan, will organise an international symposium on "Global peace and civil action" on Friday and Saturday. Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, principal of Mahajana First Grade College K.V. Prabhakara said the symposium would begin with the inauguration of an exhibition of photo panels of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the college premises at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Film
A documentary film by Sri Anand Patwardhan, "War and Peace", would be screened. The second-day would witness a series of special talks by M. Tanaka from Japan, S. Chatterjee from Indian Institute of Astro Physics, Bangalore, and Hosseini from Iran. An interaction with the participants would follow, he said. The post lunch session on August 12 would feature a discussion on Hiroshima and Nagasaki with short documentary films.
Prizes
Prizes would also be distributed to the winners of competitions in painting, essay writing, collage and poetry, he said. Prof. Prabhakara said that a team of Japanese professors, students, and representatives of the National Federation of University Co-operative Association would be in Mysore. "They will be here with a special message. With India going nuclear and the arms race in the sub-continent continuing to grow and more so with violence caused by separatist groups and communal elements, reaching an all time high in India, a message of peace seems to be very relevant," he said.
Forum
Prof. Prabhakara said the SBRR Mahajana First Grade College would establish a forum for "Peace and understanding" to create awareness among students and members of the general public and to build a platform for global peace. Delegates from Japan, Iran, Africa, West Asia and India were expected to attend the symposium, he said.
