NEW DELHI: The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday urged the Centre to declare floods in Andhra Pradesh as a national calamity and direct the Ministries concerned to take up restoration work and distribution of ex gratia to the victims on an urgent basis. In a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the TD Parliamentary Party said floods had caused extensive damage to standing crops over 20 lakh acres. TDP leaders K. Yerrannaidu and R. Chandrasekar Reddy urged the Prime Minister to visit the affected areas of Andhra Pradesh for an on the spot study and extend necessary help to the people of Andhra Pradesh.
