50 p.c. subsidy on seed announced

Special Correspondent

N. Raghuveera Reddy

HYDERABAD: The State Government has decided to supply seed for paddy and other crops at 50 per cent subsidy in flood -hit areas.

This was decided after Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy, who is on a visit to Australia, reviewed the situation relating to crop damage in the flood - affected areas on telephone with the C.V.S.K. Sarma, Principal Secretary, and Poonam Malkondaiah, Commissioner of Agriculture.

Mr. Reddy asked the officials to see that the seeds were supplied on subsidy to areas where floodwater was receding.

He said rescuing farmers hit by floods was the primary responsibility of the Government and that he had got the proposal on subsidy cleared by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

When the Minister asked the officials to ensure that farmers did not face any problem in getting subidised seed, the officials informed him that 1.5 lakh quintals of seed was already kept in readiness.

He also wanted the officials to see that the farmers get crop loans in time.
