Those who had moved court against Housing Board ready for talks now

CHENNAI: The Housing Board will soon find a favourable solution to problems in land acquisition, Housing Minister Suba Thangavelan told the Assembly on Thursday.

Noting that several persons had gone to court against the Housing Board in connection with the land acquisition process, Mr. Thangavelan said some of them were now willing to withdraw their petitions and had agreed to have negotiations.

In different urban centres, the Board had sold plots on a piecemeal basis in some instances because a section of landowners had gone to court. So, it left out the lands that were under dispute and sold the rest.

Auction

The Board would shortly hold an auction of 42 grounds at Indira Nagar in Chennai. It was also carrying out a study of its inventory and identifying its lands to be developed for construction of commercial complexes and residential apartments, besides the ones that could be sold as plots, the Minister said, in response to queries from members during the Question Hour.

Kannagi temple

Replying to a question from N. Eramakrishnan of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, K.R. Periakaruppan said though the Mangala Devi temple, called Kannagi Kottam, was located in Gudalur village limits of Uthamaplayam taluk, the approach road came under the forest area of Kerala. So permission had to be obtained from the Kerala Government. Every year, on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Chitrai (April-May), officials of the two States made arrangements for devotees to visit the temple without any restrictions.
