ALL FOR A CAUSE: Activists of `People for Animal,' an NGO, staging a protest before the Assembly in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, demanding the arrest of animal poachers in Orissa.
Kolkata: In an attempt to bring to light the abusive practices adopted by Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC),activists of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have decided to stage a protest here on Friday. PETA activists have planned to "imprison themselves" in cages in front of a KFC outlet in order to focus on the cruelties meted out in the KFC supply farms around the world, where many of the chickens are allegedly scalded to death in de-feathering tanks or have their throats slit while they are still conscious.
International campaign
More than 10,000 such protests have already been held in several parts of the world as part of an international campaign to force the KFC to take steps to stop the abuses.
Celebrities pitch in
PETA had earlier roped in many celebrities such as Pundit Ravi Shanker, Sir Paul McCartney and Pamela Anderson to endorse its cause, but those pleas have not had any impact on the KFC.
