Alert at Begumpet airport

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: An alert was sounded by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Begumpet and security beefed up. The alert notice assumes significance in the wake of a major terror plot detected at London's Heathrow airport to blow up planes in mid-air. Security was tightened at all entry points and the four gates abutting the compound wall of the runway were also closed permanently to prevent miscreants from entering the runway.

Officials at the Begumpet airport said it was a general alert issued 15 days ago and not linked to Thursday's UK episode.
