Thiruvananthapuram: Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby has said the Government is actively thinking of organising a festival exclusively for documentaries and short films in the State. Inaugurating Signs- 2006, the second international festival of documentaries and short features in video organised by the Federation of Film Societies of India, here on Thursday, Mr. Baby said the Department of Culture was considering a proposal to entrust the proposed festival to the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy or to the film societies. The Minister said the attitude of tagging short films and documentaries along with film festivals should end. Steps should be taken by all concerned to end the apathy of film lovers towards short films and documentaries. Noted filmmaker and jury chairman of Signs-2006, Sayeed Mirza, was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Festival director V.K. Joseph and Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman T.K. Rajeev Kumar spoke. The fest will showcase the best of digital video productions in the country. As many as 160 films will compete for the John Abraham national awards in the competitive section of the festival. The Kerala Chalachitra Academy, Public Relations Department, Culture Department and the Kerala State Film Development Corporation are the joint organisers of the six-day festival.
