NEW DELHI: Six people, including a Haryana Police head constable, were arrested following an encounter with the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police at Dwarka on August 5. The police claim to have seized six vehicles and recovered a hand-grenade, three pistols, a revolver, a country-made firearm and 25 cartridges from them. Acting on a tip-off received by Assistant Sub-Inspector Charan Singh about the movements of some criminals, a team led by Inspector Rajpal Dabas of the Special Staff laid a trap at Dwarka on August 5. The police tried to stop a Scorpio jeep in which the suspects were travelling but the driver sped instead. The police team gave a chase and intercepted it near the railway tracks, at which the three occupants alighted from it and opened fire at them. The police also opened fire and managed to overpower them. They were identified as Ravinder, Anil Kumar Solanki and Rajbir Singh. The police reportedly recovered a hand grenade, a 9 mm pistol and a mobile phone from Ravinder, a revolver and three mobile phones from Anil and a country-made firearm from Rajbir, a Haryana police head constable. At their instance, the Special Staff arrested their three accomplices, Pradeep, Rohtash and Suresh, from whom two .32 bore pistols were recovered. A Scorpio jeep, a Honda City, a Maruti Alto, a Maruti Esteem car and two motorcycles were seized during the operation. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were members of Dalip gang and confessed to their involvement in more than two-dozen cases of murder, attempt-to-murder, robbery, kidnapping for ransom, carjacking, extortion and contract killing. They allegedly disclosed that they had been given the contract to kill a Punjab Kesri reporter from Ambala against a payment of Rs. 5 lakhs by one Jagdish. They were also planning to kill a Haryana property dealer Jinni Gurjar to terrorise and extort money from other property dealers. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravinder Yadav, Ravinder is involved in 17 criminal cases and Anil is involved in 20 cases, whereas Pradeep and Suresh are into property dealing and Rohtash is into supply of illegal firearms. Head Constable Rajbiris allegedly a childhood friend of Ravinder and used to provide him logistical support.
