"Spell out stand on relief policy for terror victims"
Legal Correspondent
New Delhi:
The Supreme Court on Friday asked the Centre to spell out whether any policy was put in place for granting relief to victims of terrorist attacks.
It asked Additional Solicitor-General Gopal Subramaniam to explain the Government's stand while hearing a petition filed by Anjani Kedia, who was seriously injured in the March 7 bomb explosion at the Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi.
A Bench consisting of Justices S. B. Sinha and Dalveer Bhandari issued notice to the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh Government.
The petitioner said he sustained multiple fractures and for lack of timely medical help he was seriously infected. He was given a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh while he had spent about Rs. 5 lakh for the treatment by taking loans. He was still undergoing treatment in Mumbai as medical care in Varanasi was not good. Mr. Kedia said there was no response to the letters he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav seeking financial help.
