News Analysis
Question 13 in the YW Quiz (Young World, August 11, 2006, page 4) was: "Who composed the Periya Thirumozhi, one of the key works of Vaishnavism?" The answer was: "Nammalwar (also known as Satagopan)". Readers point out that it should have been Tirumangai Azhwar. Nammazhwar has written "Tiruvaimozhi". In the report "Don't interfere with Ten Sports' rights: court" (August 5, 2006), the figure of 48 billion [television] viewers in India was mentioned, which a reader felt was incorrect. Our Legal Correspondent clarifies that the figure was mentioned on the basis of a submission made by the Additional Solicitor General who appeared for Prasar Bharti and that it (48 billion viewers) is incorrect. Clue 2 Down in The Hindu Crossword 8678 ("Variety" page, August 10, 2006) was: "Stopped to spill gin indeed (7)". The answer in The Hindu Crossword 8679 ("Variety" page, August 11, 2006) was "Deigned". As a reader points out, the clue should have been "Stooped to spill gin indeed" as the anagram of "gin" and "deed" becomes "Deigned", which means "Stooped". It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
