Letters to the Editor
The foiled attempt to blow up U.S.-bound planes originating from the United Kingdom has once again turned the spotlight on the unending hate and retribution of global terrorism and the urgent need to curb the menace. The timely unravelling of the plot by the British police, which has averted a major tragedy, deserves all praise. It is a wake-up call for all nations, especially India, to tighten security measures. With Independence Day approaching, New Delhi should leave nothing to chance.
K.S. Thampi,
* * * The British police should be congratulated on their exemplary effort. Investigating leads is a very difficult task because of the global nature of terrorism today. That it was done systematically and brought to its logical conclusion is indeed praiseworthy.
Sajit Mathew,
* * * It has been proved that alert intelligence agencies can foil any attempt by terrorists to create international outrage. India should perhaps take the help of experts from the Scotland Yard.
R. Sekar,
* * *
Muralikrishna Ramanathan,

The terrorists are relentlessly making their presence felt in one part of the world or the other. How they manufacture or procure arms and who funds them are questions that need to be addressed by all nations that have been victims of terror.
Every nation, strong or weak, must realise that the fire raging in some parts will soon spread to the rest of the globe.
K.V. Seetharamaiah,
* * *
The ever alert British M15 have saved hundreds of innocent lives by nipping in the bud yet another terrorist attack in mid-air. But it will only be a matter of time before another attempt is made. The only solution to this extremely dangerous situation is to stop breeding terrorists.
The genocide Israel is committing in West Asia with the backing of its mentor, the U.S., and the attack on Iraq under the pretext of destroying weapons of mass destruction, which are yet to be found, have hurt Muslims throughout the world. When a community feels wronged, such attacks can happen any day, anywhere.
S.W.M. Rizvi,
* * *
America's war on terror is into its fifth year. Yet international terrorists are able to work out sophisticated plans to blow up aircraft in flight. Al-Qaeda, Hizbollah and the like evidently continue to be in good health. Iraq and now Lebanon will add to their strength.
While the Bushes and Blairs are on their ego flights, the world will wait for the next terrorist attack.
