IIFT campus in Kolkata

More campuses planned to meet global challenges

SHARING THOUGHT: The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Kamal Nath, sharing views at the inaugural function of the Kolkata centre of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) on Friday.

KOLKATA: The Centre will facilitate the establishment of a campus of the National Institute of Design (NID) in this metropolis in the near future, Commerce minister Kamal Nath said here on Friday.

Inaugurating the new campus of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) at Salt Lake here, the first outside Delhi, Mr. Kamal Nath said the inauguration of NID campus might not be far away.

NID, the premier institute, is now located in Ahmedabad.

The Minister said the Government would set up more IIFT campuses to meet the growing challenges of globalisation.

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee said the State Government would provide an additional three acres adjacent to the existing seven acres on the Eastern Metroplitan Bypass, where the permanent campus of the institute was coming up.

At present, IIFT would run its programmes out of the rented premises at Salt Lake.

The IIFT has started its two-year full time MBA (international business) course in Kolkata. — PTI
