BANGKOK: Thailand's ruling Thai Rak Thai Party (TRT) said on Friday that Thaksin Shinawatra, the party leader, would contest the October 15 elections as the leader of the party. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, the TRT's secretary-general, announced the decision after a meeting attended by the party's leading members. That means, if the TRT wins the elections, Mr. Thaksin would become the Prime Minister for another term. Earlier this week, Mr. Thaksin said he was still considering whether to seek another term as Prime Minister since there is a deep gap between the anti-Thaksin group and his supporters. Xinhua
