Job mela for rural youths

KURNOOL: District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) conducted job mela for rural educated youths at Peapuly in Kurnool district on Friday. MP Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy, Zilla Parishad chairman Labbi Venkata Swamy, PD, DRDA Wilson Babu and others were present. A total of 1,000 educated youth turned up at the mela and registered their names. About 250 youth were given placements in the security services immediately. . The mandal Mahila Samakhya came forward to provide advance to the recruited.-Staff Reporter

Dam waters discharged

KURNOOL: Srisailam dam discharged 5,30,417 cusecs on Friday though the inflow was around 4.31 lakhs. The dam authorities created more space in the reservoir to absorb the fresh flood expected from Saturday onwards.

Meanwhile, Tungabhadra dam received an inflow of 35,487 cusecs while outflow was around 29,274 cusecs. The flood in the Tungabhadra here was around 25,900 cusecs.-Staff Reporter

Physical fitness training

KARIMNAGAR: The District Sports Authority has decided to impart special pre-constabulary recruitment training for candidates who had applied for selection into the Police Department as constables, at the Ambedkar stadium in Karimnagar town. Interested candidates are informed to approach handball coach T.V.L. Satya Vani at Ambedkar stadium. The coaching would be given free of cost everyday in the morning and evening sessions, according to a note here on Friday. Staff Reporter

Remitting PF dues

KARIMNAGAR: Assistant PF Commissioner and Recovery Officer M. S. Arya has appealed to all the defaulting establishments to remit the statutory dues. Serious action would be taken against the employers otherwise. "The office will proceed to take coercive action as specified under Section 8 of the EPF Act such as attachment and sale of movable and immovable property, arrest of employer and his detention in prison, attachment of the bank account etc," he stated. In a press note here on Friday, he also appealed to the employers to submit the monthly and annual returns in Form 12, 4, 10, 2, 3A and & 6A to avoid prosecution under Section 14 of the Act. Teachers criticise delayed salaries

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh College Teachers' Association has deplored the attitude of Education Department in not releasing salaries to lecturers and non-teaching staff of aided colleges for the past three months `in spite of allocation of sufficient budget'.

G. Sridhar Reddy, general secretary, in a statement here on Friday urged the Government to streamline the process so as to ensure payment of salaries on the first of every month. - Special Correspondent

Nominations invited for Engineers' Day awards

HYDERABAD: The Institution of Engineers (India), Andhra Pradesh State centre has invited nominations for the Engineers' Day award to be given on the 39th Engineers Day organised in connection with the 146th birth anniversary of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The awards are: Bharat Ratna Sri M. Visvesaraya Award (Rs. 10,000), Engineer of the Year (three) and Young Engineer of the Year (two). The last date for receipt of nominations in prescribed forms is August 31. - Special Correspondent

Call for protests by Anganwadi workers

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Anganwadi Workers and Helpers' Union has called for protests against the move to retire Anganwadi staff without benefits by holding `rasta roko' demonstrations.

B. Lalitamma, president, and P. Roja, general secretary, in a statement on Friday announced that dharnas would be organised on August 17 and 18 to coincide with the Assembly sittings. - Special Correspondent

Appointed Director of Andhra Bank

HYDERABAD: K. Rama-koteswara Rao, general secretary, All-India Andhra Bank Officers' Federation, has been appointed Officer-Director on the Board of Andhra Bank for a term of three years. Mr. Rao, who is deputy manager in the Ashoknagar branch, here, joined the bank as a clerk in 1976. He is also president of the Andhra Pradesh Regional Rural Bank Officers' Association. - Special Correspondent

Vamsadhara project renamed

Srikakulam: Vamsadhara project in the district has been officially named Boddepalli Raja Gopala Rao project or BRGR project. The Government issued orders to this affect, according to K. Sudheer, Superintending Engineer, BRGR project circle. - Special Correspondent

Tribal farmer dies of shock

KHAMMAM: Thati Ramaiah, a tribal farmer, who visited his cotton fields to take stock of the flood ravage, died of shock in Turubaka village of Dummuguem mandal on Thursday night.

The destruction caused by the flood left him in a rude shock and he collapsed immediately on the spot.

The death was attributed to heart attack. The farmer had raised cotton and red gram in two acres of land and the loss was said to be extensive. - Staff Reporter

Low pressure over Bay persists

VISAKHAPATNAM: Thursday's low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal off north Orissa-West Bengal coast persists, according to a special weather bulletin issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre here on Friday evening.

It was likely to intensify to become well marked. Rainfall was likely to increase over north coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 48 hours, the bulletin added.
