P.A. Mohammed Committee adjourns final hearing to August 24

KOCHI: The consortium of self-financing medical college managements failed to submit the details of the entrance test conducted for admission to the management seats before the admission supervisory committee that met here on Friday.

The committee, headed by the former judge P.A. Mohammed, decided to adjourn the hearing of the representatives of the Association of Self-Financing Medical Colleges to August 24. It has been made clear that no further adjournment will be granted for production of documents related to the entrance test conducted for admitting students to the management quota in self-financing medical colleges.

The committee had summoned the representatives of the consortium after they failed to submit the documents before Thursday evening. It had also issued a notice to the association representatives to produce copy of notification/ advertisement inviting application for the examination conducted for admitting students to the management seats.

George Paul, general secretary of the Association of Self-Financing Medical Colleges, informed the committee that the rank list and other connected documents had already been forwarded to the counsel appearing for them in the case pending before the Supreme Court.

He told the committee that the advertisements for the entrance test were published by individual managements. The consortium was not in possession of the originals of the advertisements made by the management. The committee has now decided to examine this question further when the managements of different medical colleges will be heard separately.

Displeasure expressed

The admission supervisory committee expressed displeasure over the absence of the Principal of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College, Karakonam, during the sitting held here on Friday.

The committee had asked the Principal to appear before the committee to clarify certain aspects related to the documents regarding the entrance test conducted for admission to the management seats.

The committee found that the admission made by the college authorities to the management seats was not fair and transparent. When the matter was taken up for hearing on Friday, the committee found that the Principal was not present for the hearing.

Thankappan Nadar, general superintendent of the college, appeared as a representative of the Principal. He produced a letter from the Principal along with a copy of the advertisement and other details.

In the absence of the Principal, the committee could not examine the veracity of the documents.

The committee expressed displeasure over the "casual manner in which the matter has been taken by the Principal".
