BJP calls for Jaipal, Sheila resignations

Staff Reporter

For failing to provide relief from sealing

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has demanded resignation of Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for their inability to provide relief to the people of the Capital from sealing and demolitions.

In a statement on Friday, Dr. Vardhan said the stay granted by the Supreme Court had made it clear that the Congress and the governments led by it at the Centre and in Delhi had no real intention to provide relief to the people. "Even after eight months, the Urban Development Ministry has not been able to provide relief to the people of Delhi. On the contrary, Mr. Reddy and Ms. Dikshit along with Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken made tall claims about having come to the rescue of the people that have now proved to be false," he said.

He added that the only option before the Union Government now was to notify the new Master Plan for Delhi-2021 and announce an amnesty scheme if it really wanted people to benefit.

Meanwhile, reacting to the developments, the Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, said it was a sad reflection on the functioning of Congress Government at the Centre and in Delhi. He said when the Bill was presented in Parliament senior BJP leader and South Delhi MP Vijay Kumar Malhotra had stated on the floor of the House that the manner in which the Bill had been framed and presented it would not stand judicial scrutiny. "Mr. Malhotra has been proved right and the Delhiites are paying for the wrong policies and the short sightedness of the Congress Governments," he added.
