HYDERABAD: Immersion of Ganesh idols will take place in the Hussainsagar lake as usual this year, but in accordance with conditions imposed by the High Court on Friday as well as the Government's undertaking on initiating measures to control pollution. A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice G. S. Singhvi had asked the State Government to file an affidavit regarding the steps taken to reduce pollution in the lake caused by immersion of idols last week in a writ petition. The Bench was disturbed with the fact that pollution due to idol immersion went unabated. Naram Krishna Rao, former Chief Engineer of Public Health and expert on Hussainsagar, brought to the Court's notice an earlier report of expert bodies. He said pollution caused by industrial and domestic sewage was at high levels and another Bench had already issued guidelines in this regard five years ago following which the Government issued orders regulating the material to be used in making the idols. On Friday, Veena Ish, Secretary, Municipal Administration, filed an affidavit with all the details. Advocate General C. V. Mohan Reddy said appropriate measures would be taken to implement the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) guidelines and also the Rajamani Committee's recommendations. The Bench then said that it had taken into consideration the time factor. It said that restrictions imposed by the CPCB should be implemented fully and all material immersed in the lake disposed of within three days.
